PTI challenges restrictions on meeting Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has taken legal action, alleging unfair treatment of its founder and former prime minister, Imran Khan, currently imprisoned. The president of the PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Junaid Akbar, has petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC), alleging that the government’s decision to limit Khan’s access violates the jail manual. He expressed concern that these actions could exacerbate existing tensions between the government and the PTI.

While addressing the media, Akbar underlined the party’s commitment to constitutional supremacy and dropped hints about possible negotiations with prominent political figure Maulana Fazlur Rehman, subject to Khan’s blessing. The Punjab government, meanwhile, has refuted the claims of limitations, saying that Khan is still often visited by members of his family, legal team, and party leadership. The minister of information in Punjab, Azma Bokhari, has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of using the current circumstances to garner public support for their divisive political campaigns.

The PTI’s Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif demanded that the limitations be lifted, claiming that they were attempts to coerce Khan into reaching a deal. He reaffirmed the party’s assertions about Khan’s dedication to constitutional values by making it clear that Khan would not negotiate any terms for his release. Members of the PTI maintained this attitude and accused the government of unfairly singling out Khan in an effort to censor dissenting opinions. Government officials, however, have denied the claims and insist that their acts are entirely legal.
