Indian composer Pritam has responded to claims that BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s new song, “Like Jennie,” resembles the “Rani” theme from the Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He attributes the similarities to coincidence, noting that since “Rani” and “Jennie” rhyme, a similar flow in one phrase doesn’t constitute copying.
Pritam emphasizes that in today’s interconnected world, minor similarities are inevitable, and artists should focus on celebrating each other’s work rather than making accusations.
The controversy arose when fans observed that the chorus of “Like Jennie” features a chanting style similar to that of the “Rani” theme, leading to online debates about potential plagiarism. However, Pritam dismisses these allegations, wishing Jennie success with her new album, Ruby, and encouraging a more supportive approach within the artistic community.
