President Asif Ali Zardari is set to address a joint session of parliament today (Monday), marking the beginning of the second parliamentary year of the National Assembly (NA), The News reported.

The NA Secretariat has issued a one-point agenda for the session, with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq presiding over proceedings. Strict security measures have been implemented, including a complete ban on guest entry into Parliament House. Additionally, only a limited number of invitation cards have been issued to journalists.

The session will be attended by the chiefs of armed forces, foreign diplomats, governors, and chief ministers.

President Zardari’s address will highlight the government’s achievements over the past year, particularly in economic policy, and set the tone for the coming year. He will emphasize the need for national unity and provide a policy statement on key regional and national security issues, including the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and counterterrorism efforts.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers may stage protests during the session, continuing their demands for the release of party founder Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for over a year.
