Police strengthen support for religious minorities through Meesaq Centers

The Lahore Police have reinforced their dedication to assisting religious minorities by providing vital legal services through their Meesaq Centers. These centers, set up in Liberty, Kahna, and Mozang, are inclusive spaces operated by police officers from Christian and other minority communities, fostering trust and collaboration.

This year alone, over 4,200 individuals have benefited from these centers. Five hundred eleven non-Muslims and one hundred and ten people from other districts had their character certificates issued as part of the service. Meesaq Centers have also conducted 2,849 police verifications, registering reports for 55 missing persons, 32 criminal cases, and 18 cases involving economically disadvantaged individuals. Additionally, 13 applicants received copies of FIRs.

Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana emphasized the centers’ role in protecting the rights of minorities and promoting interfaith harmony. “We are ensuring that minority communities receive prompt services under one roof,” Kamyana noted. Special arrangements are also made for women, the elderly, and differently-abled individuals.

Beyond legal services, the centers prioritize safeguarding places of worship to ensure a secure environment for religious minorities. These initiatives underline the police’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and inclusive society.
