PM Shehbaz welcomes first Lahore-Baku flight

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif celebrated the inauguration of Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) first direct flight from Lahore to Baku, Azerbaijan, calling it a notable stride in enhancing regional connectivity. He highlighted that the air link would foster stronger tourism, trade, and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Flight PK-159, carrying 152 passengers, was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Azerbaijan’s Transport Minister Rashad Nabi, alongside Pakistani officials. A ceremony marked this milestone, featuring a cake cutting and gifts for passengers. On its return to Lahore, flight PK-160 signified the success of this new route.

Earlier, a send-off event was held at Lahore Airport, with Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, in attendance. Shehbaz Sharif noted that similar connections with other nations are being planned to bolster regional integration and expand Pakistan’s economic opportunities.

This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s strategic focus on Central Asia and aims to enhance tourism and investment while strengthening people-to-people ties with friendly countries.
