PM Shehbaz Pledges Business-Friendly Reforms, Strengthens Ties with China
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fostering a favorable environment for investment and business in Pakistan during a meeting with prominent business leaders on Friday.
Commending their contributions to national development, the prime minister acknowledged the private sector’s role in job creation and economic growth. He assured them that economic reforms across all sectors would continue in close consultation with business leaders, aiming to accelerate Pakistan’s economic progress.
According to an official statement, business representatives expressed “complete confidence” in the government’s policies. They praised initiatives such as the establishment of the National Seed Development Authority, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity, and the Green Pakistan Initiative. The business community also highlighted the government’s role in promoting Pakistan’s IT sector on the global stage.
The prime minister welcomed their suggestions and directed relevant ministries to collaborate with business leaders in preparation for a sector-specific meeting scheduled for next week.
Strengthening Pakistan-China Ties
In a separate meeting, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The prime minister conveyed his greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, congratulating them on the successful convening of the annual “Two Sessions” of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Expressing satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-China strategic relations, PM Shehbaz thanked China for its steadfast support on key issues. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between the two nations.
Discussions also covered security and counter-terrorism cooperation between the two countries.
Marking the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s historic 2015 visit to Pakistan, the prime minister directed officials to commemorate the occasion and extended an invitation for President Xi to visit again.
Ambassador Jiang praised the government’s achievements in stabilizing Pakistan’s macroeconomic situation and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic development.
