PM Shehbaz announces support plan for conflict victims

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a national remembrance day and a compensation initiative for those affected during the recent military confrontation with India. Addressing the nation on Monday, the premier said May 10 will now be commemorated annually as Youm-i-Marka-i-Haq (Battle of Truth Day), marking the armed forces’ success in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.

This year, formal observances will be held on May 16, including special prayers to honor those who served in the conflict. Shehbaz praised the military’s performance, describing it as a source of national pride, and unveiled a comprehensive relief package for both civilians and personnel impacted by the fighting.

Injured victims will receive reimbursement between one and two million Indian rupees, and the families of civilian casualties will receive ten million rupees. Depending on their rank, the aid for martyred military personnel will range from Rs10 million to Rs18 million, including extra housing support worth Rs19 million to Rs42 million. Their families will also continue to receive full salaries until the fallen soldiers’ retirement age. Educational support for children and a Rs1 million marriage grant for one daughter are also part of the plan. A compensation of 2–5 million rupees is awarded to wounded soldiers.

The government also pledged to rebuild damaged homes and mosques, while covering all medical expenses for those injured. “We must care for the children of our martyrs as a moral and national duty,” PM Shehbaz emphasized.

In a diplomatic gesture, PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its backing during the crisis. During a meeting with Turkish Ambassador Irfan Neziroglu, the PM thanked President Erdogan for standing by Pakistan, calling it a testament to the deep ties between the two nations.

On social media, Shehbaz also welcomed Turkiye’s move to dissolve the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, terming it a positive step for peace.
