PIA halts flights as Pakistan-India tensions escalate

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the suspension of all flights for the next 12 hours in response to the growing tensions between Pakistan and India. A spokesperson for PIA confirmed the cancellations and encouraged passengers to stay updated with the airline for further information.

Flights already en route have been diverted to Karachi, while all ground operations have been temporarily halted. Despite these measures, Pakistan’s airspace remains open, as confirmed by the latest Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the authorities.

Several Asian airlines have also adjusted their flight plans due to the ongoing conflict. For example, Taiwan’s EVA Air has altered its Europe-bound flights to avoid Pakistani airspace, while Korean Air has rerouted its flights from Seoul to Dubai to bypass Pakistan. Thai Airways has also issued warnings about potential delays as it reroutes its flights to Europe and South Asia.

These changes follow India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor,” which targeted locations in Pakistan that India claims are connected to a recent attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, an accusation Pakistan denies. In retaliation, Pakistan’s military reported shooting down five Indian fighter jets, heightening the conflict further.
