Peshawar Zalmi’s victory over Multan Sultans keeps PSL playoff hopes alive

Peshawar Zalmi improved their prospects of making it to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) playoffs on Monday by defeating Multan Sultans by a significant seven wickets. The match, held at Multan’s home ground, saw the Sultans struggle offensively, managing only 108 runs before being bowled out in 19.1 overs. Shai Hope and Tayyab Tahir were the top scorers for Multan, contributing 23 and 22 runs respectively.

Zalmi’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Ahmad Daniyal, who delivered an impressive 3/17 in four overs. Luke Wood and Maaz Sadaqat supported with two wickets each, effectively dismantling the Sultans’ batting lineup.

Peshawar responded by chasing the mark in just 13 overs. Opener Saim Ayub led the charge with a swift 49 off 33 balls, while Max Bryant remained unbeaten at 38 from 20 deliveries. Captain Babar Azam and Mitchell Owen contributed 8 and 1 run(s) respectively. In the match involving Multan, Shahid Aziz achieved figures of 2 wickets for 17 runs, while David Willey secured 1 wicket for just 9 runs in his single over.

With four wins from eight games, Zalmi now sits sixth in the PSL standings. The team aims to continue its consistent playoff appearances since the league’s inception in 2016. Upcoming matches against Karachi Kings on Thursday and Lahore Qalandars on Friday will be pivotal for their playoff aspirations.
