PCB strengthens security after fan breaches field during Champions Trophy match

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated a comprehensive review of security protocols after a spectator breached the field during the ICC Champions Trophy match between New Zealand and Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on February 24, 2025. The individual, carrying a photo of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Hafiz Saad Rizvi, attempted to approach New Zealand player Rachin Ravindra before being apprehended by security personnel.

He has been arrested, charged with criminal trespass, and permanently banned from all cricket venues in Pakistan. In response, the PCB is collaborating with security agencies to reinforce measures and prevent future incidents.

In a related development, former Prime Minister Imran Khan criticized PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi following Pakistan’s defeat to India in the Champions Trophy. Speaking through his sister, Aleema Khan, Imran Khan attributed the loss to appointments made based on recommendations rather than merit, suggesting this practice has led to a decline in cricket standards within the country.

These events have prompted the PCB to reassess its security and administrative strategies to ensure the safety of players and uphold the integrity of cricket in Pakistan.
