Pakistan’s football squad heads to Saudi Arabia for AFC Asian Cup qualifier

Pakistan’s national football team is set to depart for Saudi Arabia on Thursday to continue preparations for their upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Syria. The match is scheduled for March 25 at the Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium in Al-Ahsa.

The team recently concluded a training camp in Lahore and will resume sessions under the guidance of Head Coach Stephen Constantine upon arrival in Saudi Arabia. Constantine, who previously led Pakistan from late 2023 to mid-2024, was reappointed earlier this month specifically for the Syria fixture.

Pakistan’s participation in the qualifier follows the lifting of an international suspension by FIFA. The suspension, imposed on February 6 due to disputes over electoral reforms within the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), was revoked after the PFF unanimously approved FIFA’s proposed constitutional amendments during an extraordinary meeting in Lahore.

In the qualifiers, Pakistan is placed in Group E alongside Syria, Afghanistan, and Myanmar. The squad comprises a mix of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, including players like Yousuf Butt, Easah Suliman, and Harun Hamid.
