Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy earns Emmy nomination for fashion documentary

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, one of Pakistan’s most acclaimed directors, has been nominated for an Emmy Award for her documentary Diane von Fürstenberg: Woman in Charge. The nomination falls under the “Outstanding Business and Economic Documentary” category at the News and Documentary Emmy Awards.

Premiering on Hulu in June 2024, the film chronicles the life and legacy of fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg, celebrated for revolutionizing women’s fashion with her iconic wrap dress. Co-directed by Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton, the documentary offers a portrait of von Fürstenberg as a pioneering figure who built a fashion empire in a largely male-led industry. It combines rich archival footage with revealing interviews to present a story of grit, innovation, and empowerment.

Expressing her appreciation on social media, Obaid-Chinoy called the project a heartfelt journey and applauded the dedication of the creative team behind it. She emphasized the importance of telling stories about strong women who lead with integrity and purpose.
