Pakistani envoy discusses Chinese nationals’ safety

On Wednesday, Islamabad’s envoy to Beijing said Pakistan and China are discussing ways to improve Chinese workers’ security.

Pakistan’s “national responsibility” and “doing everything possible” were Ambassador Khalil Hashmi’s remarks during the Boao Forum in Hainan, China.

According to him, “I think our two countries work very closely in terms of information sharing, in terms of developing the standard operating procedures” to protect Chinese workers in Pakistan.

“We keep our Chinese friends informed of the steps that we are taking, so it’s a work in progress.”

Ongoing negotiations with strong trust between both countries, Hashmi added.

“It’s a complex security environment,” he added, “We have the capability to resolve, to counter and combat and defeat these terrorist forces.”

In November 2018, the banned Balochistan Liberation Army’s (BLA) Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility for a suicide explosion near Karachi airport that killed two Chinese citizens.

Later in February, President Asif Ali Zardari met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, where they vowed to improve Chinese national security and infrastructure projects in Pakistan.

According to a mutual declaration, Pakistan will investigate and prosecute Chinese terrorist actions.

The country will also improve security input and adopt targeted and intensified measures to protect Chinese workers, projects, and institutions in Pakistan and establish a safe environment for bilateral collaboration.
