In a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, renowned Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari has turned down the Wolf Prize in Architecture for 2025. Established in 1978 in Israel, the Wolf Prize recognizes outstanding achievements in disciplines ranging from the arts and sciences to medicine, mathematics, chemistry, and physics.
While she was grateful for the honor, Lari—who is renowned for her work that integrates social justice with architecture—said she could not accept it “in view of the unfortunate continuing genocide in Gaza.” Recent escalations in Gaza, where Israeli attacks have caused massive infrastructure damage and countless Palestinian casualties, coincide with her decision.
