Pakistan urges comprehensive talks with India amid renewed ceasefire

Following a renewed ceasefire agreement, Pakistan has extended an invitation to India for wide-ranging discussions aimed at resolving long-standing bilateral tensions, especially the Kashmir dispute. Speaking in the Senate, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stressed the importance of political dialogue to build on the recent military-level ceasefire and move toward lasting peace.

He emphasized Pakistan’s stance against India’s 2019 decision to lift Jammu and Kashmir’s special recognition, characterizing it as a unilateral action that is not acceptable. Dar also voiced serious concerns about potential Indian actions affecting the Indus Waters Treaty, cautioning that any breach could escalate into a serious conflict.

The Foreign Minister clarified that the ceasefire initiative did not originate from Pakistan. Instead, It was communicated via U.S. channels of negotiation that India expressed a willingness to cease hostilities. Despite provocations, Pakistan maintained restraint, responding in a way that respected international norms and avoided further escalation.

Dar addressed the recent Pahalgam attack, which India blamed on Pakistan without presenting evidence. He explained that Pakistan had proposed a joint investigation into the matter, but the offer was rejected by India.

In the course of the Senate session, Senator Sherry Rehman articulated that Pakistan exhibited a commendable degree of strategic patience and composure throughout the crisis. Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz called for a stronger and more unified approach in foreign affairs to enhance the country’s diplomatic standing.

A Senate resolution was unanimously adopted, condemning India’s attacks on civilians and affirming Pakistan’s right to defend its interests under the Indus Waters Treaty. The resolution also emphasized the need to continue engaging the global community to peacefully resolve the Kashmir issue.
