Pakistan temporarily closes airspace amid tensions

As tensions with India escalated, Pakistan temporarily ceased its airspace. The closure is expected to remain in effect until noon on May 11, affecting all domestic and international flights. This decision follows the launch of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos by Pakistan’s armed forces, a response to recent Indian missile attacks on three Pakistani airbases.

Passengers at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi were asked to vacate the premises, while foreign nationals at the airport were relocated to nearby hotels. The closure comes after a drone interception near Sukkur Airport was confirmed by local authorities.

Pakistan’s military has reported targeting several Indian sites, including the Pathankot and Udhampur airbases, as part of the retaliatory operation. Other facilities, such as BrahMos missile storage sites, were also among the targets. Officials emphasized that the military responded to Indian aggression with precision, focusing solely on military sites.

Earlier, India reportedly fired missiles at Pakistani airbases located in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, and Shorkot. A military spokesperson said that most of these missiles were intercepted by Pakistan’s air defense systems, protecting its air force installations. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to defending national sovereignty and warned of further measures if provoked.

The prolonged closure of the airspace highlights the severity of the ongoing conflict and its impact on regional stability. Pakistan has expressed its readiness to respond firmly to ensure national security.
