Pakistan restricts Indian websites and channels over ‘Propaganda’

Pakistan’s Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken action to block 16 Indian YouTube channels and 32 websites, citing concerns over false information and anti-Pakistan content. This step, according to the PTA, was necessary to safeguard the nation’s security and maintain digital stability amidst heightened tensions between the two countries.

The obstructed platforms faced allegations of disseminating deceptive narratives intended to manipulate public sentiment and undermine the cohesion of Pakistan. The decision followed Indian airstrikes in Pakistani territory, reportedly resulting in 31 civilian deaths. India claimed these strikes targeted sites linked to a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir in April, which left 26 people dead. Pakistan countered by shooting down five Indian jets and accusing India of triggering the crisis.

This move mirrors a prior decision by India to block several Pakistani YouTube channels and online pages, citing similar allegations of provocative content after the Kashmir incident. The long-standing conflict over the disputed region continues to fuel reciprocal actions and sharp exchanges between the nations.

PTA reaffirmed its commitment to creating a secure digital environment and vowed to continue monitoring online content for potential threats to the country’s national interests.
