Pakistan qualifies for women’s cricket World Cup with unbeaten run

After a strong showing in the qualifying competition in Lahore, Pakistan’s women’s cricket side has guaranteed a place in the next ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. The team achieved four consecutive victories, culminating in an 87-run win over Thailand at Gaddafi Stadium on April 17, 2025.

Earlier in the preliminaries, Pakistan had shown steady form, defeating Scotland, Ireland, and the West Indies. Captain Fatima Sana played a pivotal role, delivering a standout all-round performance against Thailand by scoring a half-century and taking 3 wickets for 39 runs. Her efforts have placed her second on the tournament’s wicket-takers list, with a total of 10 wickets in four matches, just behind West Indies’ Hayley Matthews, who has 12 wickets.

With this achievement, Pakistan joins host nation India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka in the eight-team, 50-over World Cup scheduled for later this year. Scotland, the West Indies, and Bangladesh are still fighting for the final qualifying berth.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has yet to announce the exact dates and venues for the tournament. However, due to ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, a hybrid model has been agreed upon, ensuring that any matches between these two nations will be held at neutral venues.
