Strongly rejecting the Indian charges that Pakistan started strikes in Pathankot, Jaisalmer, and Srinagar, Islamabad has labelled the accusations as “baseless and irresponsible” and “politically motivated”.
Islamabad said in a Friday Foreign Office statement that India’s claims fit a “reckless propaganda campaign meant to damage Pakistan’s image and stir up tensions in the region”.
“The repeated pattern of levelling accusations against Pakistan without any credible investigation reflects a deliberate strategy to manufacture a pretext for aggression and to further destabilise the region,” says the FO statement.
India started strikes on Pakistan and AJK in the wee hours of May 8, an attack Islamabad termed a “blatant act of war”.
Islamabad claimed six Pakistani sites—from hydropower plants to mosques—were targets. After India started an unprovoked and deliberate attack at six sites — Ahmedpur East, Muridke, Sialkot and Shakkargarh in Punjab and Muzaffarabad and Kotli in Azad Kashmir — at least 31 people, including children, were slain and 57 sustained injuries.
The Pakistan armed forces fired down five Indian Air Force (IAF) jets, seven drones, wrecked a brigade headquarters and several checkpoints along the Line of Control (LoC), in reprisal.
In its statement, the Foreign Office cautioned that these strategies not only endanger peace in South Asia but also exhibit a “disturbing willingness to exploit misinformation” for military or political goals.
Demanding attention from the world community, the statement advised global forces to “counsel India toward restraint and responsibility”.
“Any escalation based on false pretensions will be met with full resolve and determination to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the administration declared.
Pakistan underlined that it was dedicated to peace but that “will not be deterred by attempts to provoke, intimidate, or mislead”.
It underlined once more how “it reserves the right to respond to acts of aggression”.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s military and civil leadership likewise denied these allegations.
Dealing with a presser on Thursday, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), firmly refuted India’s assertions that Pakistan attacked 15 sites spread throughout Indian territory, branding the claims as “utterly false.” According to him, India is attempting to support its current military operations against Pakistan with fake proof.
The assertions made by India are unfounded. Their pictures of supposedly Pakistani missiles are ridiculous. At least dried grass would be set on fire by a projectile of that kind, but their so-called proof reveals no such damage, the DG ISPR remarked.
India claims, he said, that Pakistan fired 15 missiles, all of which were neutralized by Indian air defenses. The DG ISPR laughed at these claims, nevertheless, pointing out India’s neglect of aviation protection.
Referring to downing five Indian aircraft, including three Rafale fighters, one MiG-29, and one SU-30, he queried, “If India claims it neutralised 15 projectiles, why couldn’s save its own five jets from being shot down by the Pakistan Air Force?”
