Pakistan launches first fully digital islamic banking platform

BankIslami Pakistan Limited has introduced ‘Aik,’ the nation’s inaugural fully digital Islamic banking solution, aiming to provide seamless Shariah-compliant financial services across the country. Established in 2004 and commencing operations in 2006, BankIslami has been at the forefront of Islamic banking in Pakistan.

The ‘Aik’ platform offers a range of features, including digital account opening with biometric authentication, instant money transfers, secure bill payments, mobile top-ups, and an internationally accessible debit card. Additionally, it incorporates functionalities such as a Qibla direction tool to cater to the religious needs of its users. The application is available for download on both Google Play and the Apple App Store, allowing users to register using their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) for immediate access to a secure digital Islamic banking experience.

Ashfaque Ahmad, the project lead, emphasized that ‘Aik’ symbolizes simplicity and unity, fulfilling a critical need in Pakistan’s banking landscape for a fully digital solution aligned with Islamic principles without compromising convenience and accessibility. This initiative positions BankIslami as a leader in the digital transformation of Islamic finance, catering to the tech-savvy clientele of Pakistan.
