In the early hours of May 7, 2025, Pakistan’s military reported shooting down five Indian fighter jets in response to India’s “Operation Sindoor,” which involved airstrikes on six locations in Pakistan, including regions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sialkot, and Bahawalpur.
According to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Indian strikes resulted in 26 civilian deaths and 46 injuries. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed the downing of two Indian jets around 2:45 AM, with subsequent confirmations of additional aircraft being shot down later in the morning.
Pakistan’s retaliatory actions also included artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), leading to casualties on both sides. The circumstances have heightened the strain between the two nuclear-capable nations, eliciting global appeals for moderation.
