Only significant presidents face assassination attempts,Trump claims at rally

Former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump resumed his campaign in Michigan on Tuesday, just days after surviving a second assassination attempt.

At a rally in Flint, accompanied by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Trump remarked, “And then you wonder why I get shot at. You know, only consequential presidents get shot at.”

Reflecting on the perils of the presidency, he added, “It’s a dangerous business, being president.”

Governor Sanders condemned the assassination attempt, calling it a “horrific attack” and praised Trump’s resilience: “You’ve literally taken a bullet for our country, and yet you keep fighting. You never give up. That’s why you’re going to win in November—America needs a fighter.”

Trump also shared that he had a “very nice conversation” with President Joe Biden on Monday and received a “very nice call” from Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday.

He further emphasized his plan to impose a 200% tariff on Chinese-made vehicles produced in Mexico, making them “unsellable” in the U.S. market.

The FBI described Sunday’s incident at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club as “an apparent assassination attempt.” Florida law enforcement arrested the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, after Secret Service agents spotted him with an AK-47-style rifle outside the club. Routh was charged with firearms offenses.

This incident occurred two months after a previous assassination attempt on July 13, when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire during a campaign rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, grazing Trump’s right ear.
