Trump’s comment during the event was more notable than the car purchase. Trump compares Musk to Isaac Newton in an audio tape, but calls him “Isaac Neutron.”
The recording shows Trump exclaiming, “It’s amazing. Smart dude. You know Tesla. First the light bulb, now this. Like a modern Isaac Neutron.” On social media, the message was humorously received, with one user saying, “Man… I miss the days with Isaac Neutron… Donald Trump too.”
Trump and Musk sat in a Tesla Model X for the occasion. Trump said, “Wow, that’s beautiful,” as he took the wheel. Musk joked about giving the Secret Service a heart attack but underlined that Trump cannot drive the automobile.
Despite lower-than-expected deliveries, Tesla stock rose 3.6%. Trump, who had previously supported Tesla and Elon Musk, bought a red Model X at the White House, calling it “beautiful” and labelling Musk a “great guy” and “patriot.” He said he bought the car at full price to prevent favouritism.
Trump said Musk was unfairly persecuted, even though Tesla shares have fallen owing to his political participation. Trump also promised to call Tesla vehicle attacks “domestic terrorism.”
When Trump hinted at a recession, market uncertainty increased, fuelling economic slowdown fears. Trump’s tariffs drag on global markets despite efforts to alleviate trade tensions with Canada.
