Murree’s grand transformation plan revealed

The Punjab government has introduced an ambitious Rs4.5 billion project to reshape Murree into a top-tier tourist destination. Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, the initiative aims to revamp the infrastructure within 18 months while preserving the area’s vibrant heritage and natural charm.

Kamran Lashari, Director-General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), explained the project focuses on restoring historic buildings on Mall Road, ensuring their traditional beauty is revived. A modern twist comes in the form of a glass train, set to offer visitors a unique experience of the scenic hill station.

The project prioritizes sustainable practices, balancing environmental preservation with the integration of modern facilities. Officials aim to boost tourism, create jobs, and support the local economy, making Murree a must-visit site for domestic and international travellers.

Additionally, the WCLA plans to enhance other Punjab landmarks, including Sufi shrines, gurdwaras, and churches. Efforts to introduce students to Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage are also underway, with affordable tours to Sufi shrines like Data Darbar being arranged.

According to Lashari, the surge of Sikh and international tourists reflects Pakistan’s growing reputation as a tourist hub, with its blend of natural beauty, historic landmarks, and rich cultural events attracting visitors worldwide.
