In a significant step towards post-disaster recovery and social progress, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with a high-level delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) on April 24, 2025, in Karachi. The discussion focused on major projects designed to rebuild homes for 2022 flood victims and enhance healthcare and empowerment opportunities for women.
Leading the delegation, Dr. Walid Abdelwahab, IsDB’s Regional Director, confirmed the bank’s $200 million commitment to the Sindh Flood Emergency Housing Reconstruction Project (SFEHRP). This initiative will support thousands of affected families in reconstructing safer, more resilient homes using an owner-driven approach.
In parallel, the Sindh Integrated Health and Women Empowerment Project—backed by $280 million in funding—will boost reproductive, maternal, child, adolescent, and nutritional health services across underserved regions. This collaborative project brings together the IsDB, Sindh government, and global partners to close critical healthcare gaps, especially for women and young people.
Chief Minister Shah also highlighted ongoing WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs and successfully secured additional support from the IsDB to expand these services in flood-impacted communities. These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to both recovery and sustainable development.
By combining infrastructure restoration with health and social initiatives, this partnership marks a holistic approach to rebuilding a stronger, more equitable Sindh.
