Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane clash over ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ sequel amid rising tensions

The tension between actors Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane—who starred in the romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam—has taken a dramatic turn, as political events have stirred personal and professional fallout.

The disagreement emerged after Rane publicly declared he would not join a planned sequel to the 2016 film if Hocane were cast again. His decision came after Hocane criticized India’s recent military operation dubbed “Operation Sindoor,” calling it an unjust and aggressive act against Pakistan. Rane stated he couldn’t collaborate with someone who, in his words, disrespected his homeland.

Mawra Hocane soon fired back, suggesting that Rane’s statement was little more than a publicity manoeuvre. Expressing disappointment, she said it was “strange and unfortunate” that someone she once respected would use a conflict of such gravity for personal spotlight. She emphasized that amid genuine geopolitical turmoil, turning a film sequel into a personal marketing agenda was in poor taste.

In response, Rane clarified that his remarks were not personal, noting that he never used derogatory language or mentioned her directly. He added that, while he holds artistic voices in high regard, he draws a firm line when it comes to national pride being undermined.

The clash has reignited the public’s attention toward the original film, not for nostalgic reasons, but due to the ongoing tensions between the two stars and their countries. With both actors standing their ground, any possibility of a collaborative sequel to Sanam Teri Kasam now appears unlikely.
