Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has initiated a comprehensive reform of the province’s school education system, focusing on infrastructure development, curriculum enhancement, and student welfare.
Key initiatives include the allocation of Rs10 billion to School Management Councils for improving basic facilities within 90 days. The plan also entails constructing necessary classrooms in all schools within a year and repairing 580 dilapidated and 2,770 precarious school buildings.
To enhance educational quality, the government aims to upgrade 1,750 schools over five years, with 250 scheduled for the next fiscal year. Furthermore, a total of 300 Tech-Ed institutions are slated for establishment across 10 tehsils to facilitate the dissemination of technical education.
The reform agenda also includes the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence for both girls and boys in every district, equipped with modern facilities such as IT and science labs, libraries, smart boards, and multipurpose playgrounds. The goal is to instruct 500,000 pupils in government schools in spoken English.
The province has successfully enrolled 1.1 million children who were previously out of school under the auspices of the Punjab Education Foundation, marking a noteworthy accomplishment. The government also plans to expand the school meal program to additional districts and tehsils to address malnutrition among students.
Further developments include the construction and repair of classrooms, boundary walls, toilets, and water tanks in outsourced schools, as well as the installation of solar systems to meet energy needs.
These reforms underscore the Punjab government’s commitment to providing quality education and improving the overall learning environment for students across the province.
