The police registered a case against a citizen under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) on Sunday for posting an inappropriate video on social media criticizing Bannu clerics.
According to a police official, Abrar, a resident of Mamashkhel, allegedly used offensive language against religious scholars for not announcing the moon sighting for Ramazan.
The case was filed following a complaint by Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Quraishi, head of the prayer leaders, who reported the matter to Saddar police. He stated that Abrar had accused the ulema of depriving worshippers of the first fast by failing to declare the sighting of the moon, claiming, “The moon is two days old, and the ulema of Bannu and Pakistan have denied us the first fast.”
Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
