Malala Yousafzai returns to hometown Barkana after 13 years

Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai visited her hometown, Barkana in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district, for the first time since surviving a Taliban attack in 2012.

Accompanied by her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, and husband, Asser Malik, Malala met family members and visited their ancestral graveyard. She also inspected the school and college she established in 2018, which provide free education to approximately 1,000 girls in the district. During her visit, she encouraged students to pursue their studies diligently to secure a brighter future.

This visit marks Malala’s continued commitment to promoting education and empowering young girls in her native region.
