The Judicial Magistrate’s court in Islamabad has reignited legal proceedings related to the 2014 sit-in protests, issuing arrest warrants for several individuals, including MNA Khurram Shahzad and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. These actions stem from cases registered against participants from both Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Dr. Tahirul Qadri, Chairman of PAT, has been absent from court despite multiple summons, prompting the legal process to declare him an absconder. Conversely, PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan holds a permanent exemption from court appearances, leading to further hearings being scheduled for May 5.
The 2014 protests began in August under claims of electoral fraud and demands for then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation. While PAT concluded their demonstrations in October of the same year, PTI’s sit-in extended until December. The judiciary’s renewed attention highlights the ongoing legal consequences tied to these events.
