Leadership changes at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital amid medicine shortages

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has dismissed Professor Asghar Naqi, Principal of Jinnah Hospital, and Professor Kashif Jahangir, the Medical Superintendent, following patient complaints about the unavailability of medicines.

During an unannounced visit, patients reported lacking access to essential medications and highlighted cleanliness issues. This action mirrors earlier leadership changes at Mayo Hospital due to similar concerns.

The Jinnah Model Pharmacy has faced supply disruptions over outstanding payments of approximately Rs140 million, leading to halted deliveries of critical medicines and equipment. In response, the Chief Minister has directed immediate settlement of hospital dues and emphasized the need for free medicine provision.

Additional directives include daily hospital inspections, public display of available medicines via electronic boards, activation of complaint counters, and improvements in patient amenities such as mist fans and wheelchairs. The Healthcare Commission has been tasked with conducting quality audits of hospital laboratories to ensure enhanced patient care standards.
