In the National Assembly, lawmakers from both the government and opposition praised JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for his crucial role in building consensus on the recently introduced bill.
Bilawal Bhutto was the first to speak, recognizing Maulana’s political acumen and crediting him for bringing together diverse political voices. He stated, “The only politician I truly respect after my father is Maulana Fazlur Rehman,” and emphasized that the passage of the bill represents a victory for democracy and unity during a time of political division.
Opposition leader Umer Ayub echoed these sentiments, calling Maulana a sincere leader who worked diligently to address their concerns during the bill’s drafting process.
Khawaja Asif also acknowledged Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s efforts in fostering consensus, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his appreciation for both Bilawal and Maulana’s dedicated work, lamenting the absence of PTI’s participation in the process. In his own remarks, Maulana Fazlur Rehman humorously noted, “My speech today is for appreciation, not for criticism.”
