Kurram school girls object to road restrictions.

Schoolgirls organized a protest against road closures here on Friday and requested the rapid restoration of the major artery in the area to guarantee students access to educational institutions.

Carrying placards and accompanied by their parents, the students blocked the road near Parachinar.

They claimed they couldn find school attire and textbooks.

The demonstrators alleged that in Bagan two book-carrying lorries were set on fire. They said that teachers and children were unable to get to schools due to fuel shortages.

Protests demanding the prompt opening of roads closed for the last five and a half months persisted outside the Parachinar Press Club and on the main road in Bagan.

They also demanded financial help for terrorism victims as well as the Shuhada Package for the families of more than 500 persons who lost their lives.

Social workers Musarat Bangash, Malik Zartaj, and Syed Sarfraz Ali Shah claimed that the weekly supply convoy for millions of people lacked enough. They asked authorities to guarantee the early reopening of the main route thereby guaranteeing the supply of humanitarian items to the people.

The employees also complained about trucks laden with supplies waiting to reach Parachinar for several months, which caused damage to the cargo owing to delays.

The district government claims that all necessary steps are being done to help the residents.
