PESHAWAR – Over one million families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including widows, orphans, transgender individuals, and the underprivileged, are set to benefit from a special Ramazan-Eid package. Each family will receive Rs10,000 in cash, with the government ensuring the distribution is completed through banks and Easypaisa by the 15th of Ramazan. The decision came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.
To accommodate the holy month, the cabinet also instructed that February salaries and pensions for all government employees be paid in advance, as Ramazan is expected to begin on February 28 or March 1.
The cabinet further approved Rs1.29 billion to cover nine months’ salaries for nearly 3,700 teachers in the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation. This move safeguards the education of over 181,000 students in 2,325 girls’ community schools across the province. Chief Minister Gandapur also called for expanding access to such schools to benefit more students.
The government introduced 458 nursing internship slots with a monthly stipend of Rs31,000 for nursing graduates and allocated Rs400 million to clear outstanding salaries and expenses in the Auqaf department. Funds from existing savings were also earmarked to ensure smooth operations for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade.
Other decisions included renaming Peshawar’s Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium as Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, updating local government rules, and providing scholarships for 15 orphan students at Abbottabad Public School. These initiatives aim to ease financial burdens during Ramazan while working toward long-term improvements in healthcare and education across the region.
