KP Lawmakers Protest Restrictions on Meetings with Imran, Demand Assembly Session Outside Jail
Treasury members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday criticized the restrictions on meeting incarcerated PTI leader Imran Khan, despite court orders. They called for an assembly session to be held outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail until PTI leadership, Imran’s physician, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are allowed to meet him.
Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi lamented that despite seeking relief from various forums, Imran was still denied meetings. PTI MPA Shafiullah Jan accused prison authorities of violating jail regulations and criticized alleged political interference. He demanded a transparent judicial process for Imran and called for a review of military involvement in policymaking.
Meanwhile, opposition members raised concerns over the distribution of last year’s Ramazan Package, questioning transparency and fairness in disbursing financial aid. They urged an audit and further investigation into the matter.
Additionally, treasury members objected to the job quota system in government employment, alleging favoritism toward Civil Secretariat employees. The matter was referred to a committee for review.
The assembly also passed a resolution for fair electricity pricing in Dir district and approved the KP Control of Narcotics Substances Amendment Bill, 2025. The session was adjourned until April 7.
