Inflation drops by 1.2% amid declining food prices

Pakistan’s Sensitive Price Index (SPI), which tracks short-term inflation, recorded a 1.2% decline for the week ending March 20, 2025. This marks the third consecutive weekly drop, offering some relief to consumers struggling with high living costs.

The decline is largely attributed to falling prices of perishable food items, including vegetables and poultry, which have seen a seasonal reduction. The decrease in inflation comes as the government continues its efforts to stabilize the economy through monetary and fiscal measures.

Despite this short-term improvement, overall inflation remains a concern, with essential commodities still expensive for many households. Economic analysts caution that future trends will depend on global commodity prices, exchange rate stability, and government policies aimed at curbing inflationary pressures.
