In a significant move to bolster Pakistan’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded Huawei’s initiative to train 300,000 Pakistani youths. This collaboration, established last year, aims to equip participants with skills in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and other advanced technologies, aligning them with international standards.
During a meeting with Huawei’s CEO, Ethen Sun, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to a robust, long-term partnership with the Chinese tech giant. He highlighted that this training program is expected to not only enhance IT exports but also create substantial employment opportunities for the nation’s youth.
As of March 2025, over 20,000 individuals have completed training under this initiative. The program’s structure includes basic training for 240,000 youths and advanced, high-tech training for 60,000, with completion anticipated by the end of 2025.
Further strengthening educational ties, Huawei, in collaboration with Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission, has introduced courses in AI, cloud computing, big data, and cybersecurity across 15 universities nationwide.
In tandem with these efforts, Prime Minister Sharif launched the Digital Youth Hub portal in Islamabad, aiming to connect young Pakistanis with job opportunities, educational resources, and skill development programs.
The Pakistani government remains focused on economic recovery through export enhancement, targeting $60 billion in exports over the next five years. Initiatives like Huawei’s training program are pivotal in achieving this ambitious goal, fostering a skilled workforce ready to contribute to the global digital economy.
