Historic day for Pakistan football as PFF congress passes constitutional amendments

Thursday’s extraordinary meeting of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Congress was crucial—this time, failure was not an option. After two previous meetings in recent months failed to yield the desired outcome, the Asian Football Confederation’s deputy secretary general, Vahid Kardany, flew in to oversee the proceedings.

Kardany’s presence played a pivotal role in restoring confidence and addressing the mistrust that had developed, with both FIFA and the AFC insisting that the constitutional amendments—primarily concerning the eligibility criteria for the PFF presidency—were essential for conducting the PFF elections.

Earlier this month, the Congress had overwhelmingly rejected the proposed amendments, leading FIFA to suspend the PFF. However, a shift in leadership within the FIFA-appointed PFF Normalisation Committee seemingly altered the atmosphere, resulting in the unanimous approval of the amendments.

“It’s a historic day for Pakistan football,” said Kardany, who made a brief visit to Lahore.
