Hera Pheri’s 25th anniversary: Will the cult classic return to theaters?

As Bollywood continues the trend of re-releasing iconic films, fans are abuzz with speculation—will Hera Pheri return to the big screen for its silver jubilee? The 2000 comedy, starring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty, has become a cult favorite over the years, with its dialogues and characters still dominating meme culture.

Producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala, who owns the rights to the film, addressed the rumors, stating that any decision regarding a theatrical re-release would be taken collectively with the film’s lead actors. He acknowledged their contribution to the movie’s lasting success, saying they are “as much the owners of the film as I am.”

Despite its moderate box office success at the time of release, Hera Pheri gained an immense following over the years, solidifying its place in Bollywood history. Nadiadwala believes that if it were to be re-released, it would create a “storm at the box office.”

Originally directed by Priyadarshan and adapted from the Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking, Hera Pheri has transcended generations thanks to its impeccable comic timing and unforgettable performances. While an official confirmation on the re-release is still pending, fans remain hopeful that they’ll get to relive the magic of this timeless classic on the big screen once again.
