On Thursday, February 27, 2025, the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad experienced heavy rainfall, leading to significant traffic congestion on major roads. In Rawalpindi, areas such as the Grand Trunk Road near Soan River, Adiala Road, Saddar, and Lahore High Court Road saw water accumulation, resulting in traffic jams extending from Defense Housing Authority Phase-II to the Soan River bridge.
The Meteorological Department recorded varying rainfall measurements: 25mm at Chaklala and Shamsabad in Rawalpindi; 20mm at Zero Point; 26mm at Saidpur; 8mm at Bokra, 3mm at Islamabad Airport; and 27mm at Golra in Islamabad. The Met Office has forecast additional rainfall over the next 24 hours due to a strong westerly wave affecting the region.
In Murree, a hailstorm caused 40 to 50 vehicles to become stranded in the Koza Gali area along the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. Local authorities, including Murree’s Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Shirazi and District Emergency Officer Mohammad Kamran, have deployed traffic police and rescue teams to assist and restore normal traffic flow.
While the water level in Leh Nullah remains stable, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has positioned staff and equipment in low-lying areas to address water accumulation. The rainfall has also provided relief to allergy sufferers, as it helps reduce dust and pollen in the atmosphere.
