The government has issued a directive forbidding civil servants from speaking on media or social media without prior approval, Express News reported.
According to the Establishment Division’s office memorandum, government employees are prohibited from commenting on media platforms, sharing official documents with unauthorized individuals, or making statements that could damage the government’s reputation. They are also barred from commenting on government policies, national sovereignty, or engaging in social media debates that might affect international relations.
The directive requires all civil servants to follow these guidelines, with violations potentially leading to misconduct charges. Government agencies are instructed to monitor social media for inappropriate content, and federal secretaries, additional secretaries, department heads, and chief secretaries are responsible for ensuring compliance.
The memorandum emphasizes that the goal is not to restrict positive social media use.
