Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi in Rawalpindi on May 5, 2025, to address shared security concerns and enhance bilateral cooperation. The discussions focused on managing the porous Pakistan-Iran border, which has been a longstanding challenge due to militant activities. Both nations have previously exchanged airstrikes, each targeting alleged militant hideouts within the other’s territory.
The meeting also touched upon the escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. Iran has offered to mediate between the two nuclear-armed neighbors to prevent further deterioration of regional stability.
Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, had earlier held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Foreign Minister Araghchi. The discussions centred on enhancing cooperation in areas such as border security, trade, energy, and regional connectivity. Both parties recognised the significance of ongoing dialogue to cultivate peace and stability within the region.
