The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) announced that FIFA has lifted the suspension imposed on February 6, 2025, following the unanimous approval of FIFA-proposed constitutional amendments by the newly elected PFF Congress during an Extraordinary Congress meeting held in Lahore on February 27, 2025.
FIFA had suspended Pakistan for the third time in eight years due to the federation’s rejection of electoral reforms. With the suspension now lifted, Pakistan is set to play Syria on March 25 in its first qualifier for the upcoming 2027 Asian Cup.
The PFF has faced crises and controversy since 2015, leading to multiple suspensions. In June 2022, FIFA lifted a previous suspension imposed due to third-party interference. The recent developments mark a significant step toward stabilizing and progressing football in Pakistan.
PFF Normalization Committee Chairman Saud Hashimi expressed optimism, stating, “This is a historic day for Pakistani football, and we are committed to fulfilling FIFA and AFC’s mandate to ensure a stable and progressive future for the sport in the country.”
