Fakhar Zaman faces setback in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

After injuring himself in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener against New Zealand at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan’s opening batter, Fakhar Zaman, may not play again. Zaman fell awkwardly while fielding in the first over and left the game for medical assistance. After a brief comeback, he left the match again, raising fitness concerns.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has stated that Fakhar will not go to Dubai for their upcoming match against India. Media reports claim Zaman may miss the rest of the event owing to a major injury.

Fakhar may be replaced by Imam-ul-Haq. Imam’s 98 runs in a warm-up match against South Africa make him a strong candidate for the selection.

Defending champions Pakistan battled against New Zealand in their opener. The squad lost by 60 runs after being bowled out for 260 in 47.2 overs chasing 321. Saud Shakeel opened with skipper Babar Azam after Fakhar’s absence. However, early wickets and a slower middle-order recovery hampered their chase.

Fans anxiously await ICC updates on Zaman’s status after this injury, which hurts Pakistan’s campaign.
