Kinnaird College for Women and the Pakistan Martial Arts Association (PMAA) are teaching young women self-defense under the British Council’s Active Citizens Programme. This program attempts to increase women’s confidence and safety amid rising safety concerns.
Dr. Amna Yousaf leads a team of Kinnaird College students, including Fatima Khan and Maryam Arshad, in arranging self-defense classes at schools and institutions. The Trust School taught pupils high-impact strikes and disarming an armed enemy recently. The hands-on session led by PMAA Chief Trainer Anwar Mohiuddin and teachers Sumaiyya and Hanzla was well appreciated.
Gun disarming was a highlight of emergency tactics training. Principal Asim Ishaq and Headmistress Uzma praised these programs for helping young females acquire confidence and self-defense.
Kinnaird College and PMAA’s collaboration lasts. More sessions, like the upcoming training at APWA College for Women, ensure that more young women in the region learn these life-saving skills.
