Empowering Pakistan’s youth: Huawei’s ICT training initiative

Huawei, a leading Chinese tech company, has trained over 20,000 young Pakistanis in advanced information and communication technology (ICT) skills. This initiative is part of a broader partnership between Huawei and the Pakistani government, aiming to train 300,000 individuals to international ICT standards.

The program focuses on key areas like artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and cloud computing. It not only equips students with modern technological expertise but also enhances the knowledge of trainers and professionals within the sector. Master trainers, trained by Huawei, are now passing on their expertise at local institutions, ensuring a widespread impact.

Recognizing the ICT sector as a crucial driver of economic progress, Pakistan is actively seeking foreign investments, particularly from China and Gulf nations, to strengthen this field. In January, the country’s IT ministry, in collaboration with Huawei, launched an online training portal to build a skilled digital workforce and contribute to national development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged officials to accelerate these training efforts. He has instructed that the ICT training portal be made accessible across all regions, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, to maximize its reach and benefits.

This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s vision of integrating its youth into the global digital economy, fostering technological innovation, and driving long-term economic growth.
