CM Maryam Nawaz fired Mayo Hospital officials over poor patient care

During a surprise visit to Lahore’s Mayo Hospital, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz encountered numerous patient grievances regarding inadequate medical supplies, substandard treatment conditions, and unsanitary environments. Disturbed by these revelations, she promptly dismissed the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ahsan, and Medical Superintendent, Dr. Faisal Masood, for their failure to address these critical issues.

Expressing her dissatisfaction, CM Maryam highlighted the administration’s lack of awareness concerning ward conditions, emphasizing that patients should not suffer due to managerial shortcomings. She recounted a patient’s ordeal of tirelessly searching for essential medicines throughout the night, underscoring the urgent need for administrative accountability.

In response to these challenges, the Chief Minister convened an emergency meeting at the hospital, directing immediate payment of outstanding dues for medicines and ensuring a 100% supply of necessary medical items. She also mandated a comprehensive plan for the hospital’s repair and instructed the health secretary to identify and penalize those responsible for negligence.

Furthermore, CM Maryam announced plans to outsource rural health centers across Punjab to enhance medical and diagnostic services, aiming to provide facilities comparable to major hospitals. This initiative seeks to ensure that health centers operate 24/7, offering general surgery, gynecology, diagnostics, and other essential services to the public.
