SF Cargo, a subsidiary of one of China’s largest logistics and courier companies, has officially commenced biweekly cargo flights between Urumqi, the capital of China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Islamabad. Each flight is expected to transport approximately 22,775 kilograms of cargo, enhancing Pakistan’s air freight sector.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) anticipates that this development will generate substantial revenue through cargo throughput charges and open new export channels to Urumqi, providing local exporters with improved access to the Chinese market. There are plans to increase the frequency of these flights to four times a week in the near future.
This initiative is expected to facilitate cross-border e-commerce and strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and China, complementing large-scale projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and promoting private-sector-led initiatives to deepen bilateral commerce.
