Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has proposed the establishment of joint ventures with Pakistan in sectors such as defense, energy, economy, logistics, and transport to enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations. In a letter addressed to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the occasion of Pakistan’s 85th Republic Day, Aliyev expressed his commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
This correspondence follows Sharif’s recent visit to Baku in February, during which both countries agreed to sign agreements aimed at boosting bilateral investments to $2 billion. The visit also resulted in multiple agreements covering trade, energy, tourism, education, and other sectors.
In September of the previous year, Azerbaijan procured JF-17 Block III fighter jets from Pakistan, reportedly in a $1.6 billion deal, highlighting the defense collaboration between the two countries. During Aliyev’s visit to Pakistan last year, a joint committee was established to explore projects in various sectors, including trade, information technology, tourism, telecommunication, and mineral resources. At that time, Sharif noted that the existing trade volume of $100 million did not reflect the true potential of bilateral trade.
Aliyev’s recent letter underscores the importance of successful joint efforts in areas such as the economy, transport, logistics, energy, investment, and the defense industry to strengthen bilateral relations.
