Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has voiced concerns over the United States’ motives just before the second round of nuclear discussions scheduled in Rome. Speaking during a press briefing in Moscow alongside his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, Araghchi admitted Iran’s reservations about Washington’s objectives but confirmed their participation in the upcoming negotiations. This meeting, organized through Omani mediation, represents the most significant exchange between the two nations since the US abandoned the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018.
He emphasized Iran’s commitment to resolving issues around its nuclear program peacefully while carefully navigating existing mistrust. Lavrov offered Russia’s assistance in mediating, provided both parties view its role favorably.
The talks aim to address international concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, striving for a solution against a backdrop of lingering doubt and fragile diplomacy.
